Google Pixel 8A: Details

Google Pixel 8A is a new budget phone from Google. Last year’s phone was good, and it was priced around INR 45,000 in India and roughly $500 on the outer market.

As an Indian consumer, INR 45,000/- is not cheap, and it’s a mid-range phone. Let’s find out, A8 is worth your money?

  • 6.1 inches
  • Google Tensor G3 (4nm)
  • 128gb with 8gb ram and 256gb with 8gb ram
  • Battery 4400mAh
  • Main camera 64MP, f/1.9, 26mm
  • Video 4k@30/60fps and 1080p@30-240fps
  • Fount camera 13MP, f/2.2
  • Video 4k@30fps & 1080@30fps
  • Android 14
  • IP76 dust/water resistance
  • Comes with wireless charging
  • Comes with 4 different colours with mat texture

Google is slowly upgrading its hardware to compete with other smartphones in this price range. Design is the same as other pixel trade mark of all other phone companies. Just a little more curves on edges, and that only noticeable change in design in Pixel 8.

It has been upgraded to a Tensor G3 processor this year. It was last year’s flagship processor, so now we can get a picture that this device is fairly capable of doing hard tasks, and 8A comes with 2 storage options, surprisingly. If I am right, this is the 1st time they have come with 2 different storage options.

Display is a little improved, and it’s using Actua display brightness is 1400nits (HDR) and 2000(peak). Whether it is really noticeable is questionable. And screen refresh rate is now 120 hertz (Hz). This is an improvement from last year, 90Hz.

But the size is the same as before, 6.1 inches, and we can say the size remains the same as last year, the design of the selfie camera is same position, so nothing new is going on here. Same optical finger sensor/reader.

Well, this isn’t something revolutionary because people who use phones casually may not want to increase the screen refresh rate, and the good reason is that it drains battery a lot, and only gamers can fully utilise it.

Let’s talk about 8A features

  • 8A comes with built-in AI functions
  • It will get 7 years of updates
  • And has really good cameras

8A will come with many good AI functions like call assist, Magic eraser Audio, and Google features. What I really like the most is that Google promised 8A will get 7-year updates like security, operating system (OS) updates and features, and most of the up-to-date gadget lovers already know Pixel provides the best cameras to its phones.

Conclusion

Here is my concern about it: you can still buy last year’s Pixel 8 for a slightly higher price than 8A, which was top of the line last year. Which has a better quality display, better cameras and better battery. 8A is a little expensive when I look at pixel 8.

I can say it’s a good mid-tier phone, but if you have a budget to get Pixel 8, then go for it or wait for r few months to get a price drop.
